 Evaluation of Cabinet Of Curiosities

I think the overall performance of the cabinet of curiosity  was the success just watching everyone's little pieces such as duets or even the classes performance was a real touching moment to show different stories that were developing.
Myself in particular in the performanceI thought that me and Skye in our duets were very open to what we could do and interpret from our sculpturally taken from the Tate modern.I would say that performance was very difficult overtime as we were getting tired of the continuous lifting however I think the stress and strain on our bodies just added to the peace overall when people came round and looked how supporting  one another was actually more difficult than you thought.if me and Skye had looked in more  development I think we would added more material to make it less continuous but a longer piece.idea of having sheets overhead came to us when we for that supporting each other not just as people but as objects as well.and the idea that where in this paper over your head took away your personality and dehumanised you.
For the class piece I think that the movements and different sections we made were experimental and did explore theatre in a new way to ours there wasn't much of a story compared to Sarah's there was a clear narrative and you could understand what the overall piece meant11 that's not saying that our pieces bad I think I'll piece is great and the audience did really take something from it.The fire movement could've been more fluid and I think some people just doing generic movement and not thinking about other parts of the body they could use.came to the cross dress I think most of us put in a lot of work and ready for off different ways to use this cloth not just pulling in tugging.me and Harry seem to find this sequence  easy me and him are best friends and we are quite comfortable with each other so we did not mind that this task would have physical elements to it , we  trust each other and I think helped in the piece that we could have their moments of just looking at each other net not being awkward they really told a story within the eyes to an audience.
From the overall performance I think that what the class needed to work on was when someone says be silent it doesn't mean you can whisper backstage I did find myself getting more agitated and angry and it did show as I did start to get annoyed with people think if we were in the industry and we wanna take it seriously especially on the night of the performance thenthese people were meant to be actor should have taken more seriously to.should be something I say they needed to work on however when it did come to onstage performances we did all pull off and deliver a really good show.
Antonin Artaud jeune b SD.jpg

Antoine Artaud was born n 1896 in France he had Greek ancestors and he really took hold of that as a idea for theatre work.Interesting story of his life was he was made to join the french army how ever he was let off the force as he was proun to sleep walking . He moved to Paris to follow the dream of writing but instead he found a passion for directing he did continue to write and do poems and did eventually get published but not for that reason of his writing but because of his life. through his life producing and directing plays along side other great directors of the time he also found a love for cinema. Artuad in his life was arrested and places in straight jacket after traveling to Ireland and getting kicked out then believed he was being attacked and reacted by attacking back. the end of his life was spent in different insane asylums and when France was attacked by Nazi's his friends had him transferred to some where safe. He did continue to write after this.

Grotowski work

Jerzy Grotowski was a polish theatre director who was born in the 1933 an died in 1999 at the age of 65. As he was alive in the time of  the second world war the family had moved to a small village as the dad had gone off to war. This time that was spent there they think were the developing stages of Grotowski and let him explore the world around him. The first show that was produced by him was in 1958 and it was titled God Of Rain it showed the surface and way that Grotowski approached text and he developed his initial ideas through out his career.

Jerzy Grotowski.jpg
Grotowski's work was being censored by professional theatres and his real stories and directing ablity was not being fully performed so they decided to move the company to different location so they could explore the work they wanted in a way they wished fit.

As he had already had successful shows people already new about his work and were excited to see more so it was not like he had to start all over again and build a reputation

Grotowski did have qualifications in acting from Moscow and n that time he learnt about different approaches to theatre and he wanted to make his own way by adapting old styles into his age.

Grotowski had this idea of poor theatre that meant not worrying about lights or other attributes of the stage or site but focusing purely on the ability of an actor and what the audience would get from the performance on his own.

Session 4

Me and Sky were able to rehears our live art piece today as this was our main rehearsal we were able to get allot done and we both feel confident with the idea of our art piece and happy with the movements we have chosen towards the piece.

Showing the piece to an audience we were as actors and performers able to get an outside perspective of the piece.
What will you do next?
Next we would like to sharpen up the routine and make the moments fluid and make sure we are ready for the show.

What useful advice/suggestions were made?
There were a few comments that ii think were great advice for the show such as it seemed like the piece you could see colors blending together this lead me and sky to suggest wearing different colors to allow the illusion of this.
also we were given the suggestion of not having music but maybe having natural sounds such as waves or wind.  do really think this was a great idea to and we have chosen some music to fit the piece better.

What costume, props do you need to gather/find?
In the performance we have decided to bring in my portable speaker to allow the sounds of the environment we are also thinking of getting different color changing lights to go with the colored costumes.

What are you trying to communicate?
In the piece the main idea is of support through movements t does not  necessarily have to be a relationship it allows the audience to make an interpretation

The Whole group piece

Letting the actors look at the piece of art before you start trying to make a piece of art is useful as i was able to think of what the painting meant to me and what i believed it meant all while i was doing these other activities it was thinking in the back of my head.

The idea of experimental i think of trying to show theatre in a way that isn't normally thought of so it is idealistic if we work on task involving that for example pretending you are different elements but not talking but trying to show what element you are through movement instead
the exercise really made you explore movements as you cant instantly know what an element is going to move like so you have to explore and it may take an actor a while to find their view of the right movements.

A great idea was watching the movements of the plastic bag and getting into small groups to explore the idea of copying an inanimate object   watching this bag drop to the floor and just watching the fall and the unfolding of the bag then putting  our bodies in a way to recreate movements in groups it was weird thinking how the audience could see the work as we were moving in non humanistic ways and trying to give the bodies different textures.i learnt that taking a back look on the work we are doing and viewing it as a audience member can change the way you want to work and piece a bit together when devising.

session 3 / group live art

The idea of support and how you can be tied together in multiple ways and support each other from anywhere

session 2

Exploring different ways a body can tell a story to an audience is a great way for an actor to develop their skills

For warm ups I think a simple object such as a mountain for the class to create was a great way to get everyone engaged and the idea that as actors we were not allowed to talk is a great way for them to engage their minds and it personally allowed me to step out of my body and think of new movements to try to make it more experimental.
We engaged with each other to make the mountain and we were successful as coming together as one object.

Leading on from one task to the next with links between the activity to get us to do a harder version of the first task I always think works well as you have already introduced us into the task and now we have to adapt and stretch our abilities to fit the level of the task
Create all these images as one and only physically but also show emotion at the same time and disaster as an actor personally believe it is one of the funniest and most successful exercises we have done so far, as loads of actors rely on voiice but taking that ability away and then working with such a large group on one thing can be challenging however I don’t think we found it hard as we were already emotionally connected to the task and prepared through breathing warm ups we had done.

The last image being a playground and we had to imagine the image coming to life in the future allowed the actors imagination to take control of the story and after discussing what each of the images we had in our heads we found out a lot of the stories were tragedy and when asked why I believed it was because we were asked to perform in slow motion and the fact we had slow paced music on in the back ground , opened the mind and made people relate to sad stories.

first lesson

When starting a work shop it s always good to start with some warm ups for example today starting with

A physical warm up in silence
Big small twist
and minimal contact with the floor

These exercise get your body ready for a lesson as it is the morning and your body is most probably still asleep.Doing it in silence i believe is more effective as you take away from the urge to talk and anything happening in your mind just stops and you just focus on the lesson and objectives you have been told.

Next the alphabet box i personally saw as a bit of fun as it allowed us to be silly with it how ever it was still a performance Starting off by dong it by your self and building on such a simple idea of spelling your names then putting different objectives or diversions to allow the piece to build is a great idea as it is much more simple for an actor when building something small and slowly building it.

These then performing them to the class in groups of three with music. Me as the performer , personally i did not noticed when the music stopped or started and  believe this is how it is meant to be , as you are meant to be indulged into the performance its self not whats happening around you.

But however watching them is a different story many of the class said they were finding stories from the pieces while watching others and creating ideas in there mind to what they could mean. But for me i was having trouble doing that as i just saw movements all put together and not a story i don't know why but they were still great.
